WHY NETWORK? SHARING FAX MODEMS & CD ROM SERVERS

Fax sharing: A network allows everyone in your office to share one or more fax modems. Sharing fax modems can cut your business costs in many ways. The ability to send documents via a fax machine instead of by mail or courier reduces your operating costs by saving you money on stamps, paper and toner not to mention phone lines and fax machines.

Fax modems also save you time. When using a fax machine, you have to print out the document, place it in the fax machine, look up the recipient’s number, dial and wait for the document to be successfully transmitted. With a fax modem, it’s as easy as creating a document in your word processor and pressing the fax key - all without leaving your desk.

CD-ROM servers: If your company has a substantial amount of information stored on CD-ROM’s, a CD-ROM server will allow you to easily share this information with all users on the network. A CD-ROM server is a computer with multiple CD-ROM drives attached to a high-speed disk controller.

For example, a server with 10 CD-ROM drives would allow multiple users to simultaneously access any CD-ROM stored on the server. Because CD-ROM drives are relatively inexpensive, this is an economical solution for creating on-line libraries and reference guides.
